Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cup of flour
- 1/3 cup lard or oil
- 1 tsp baking soda
- Pinch of salt
- 1/2 cup hot water
Instructions
Mix the dry ingredients together then add in the lard or oil until the mixture is crumbly looking then add the hot water and knead until a dough is formed. Form into a ball and cover with a kitchen towel and set aside for 30 minutes.
From the ball create 8 equal sized balls. On a floured surface roll out a ball like you would a pie crust only much thinner. Like a sheet of paper if you can manage.
You want to cook them quickly on a hot pan or grill. Cast iron works well. It doesn’t take very long per side only a few seconds. You’ll look for bubbles to form and when you flip you should see some slight browning on the bubbles.
My notes on this recipe
This is a rather simple recipe and the hardest part is waiting 30 minutes for the dough to set up. If you have a pasta roller that would work well in place of rolling them by hand. We really enjoyed these and I think you will too!
